Situated in the beautiful college town of Chapel Hill, N.C., UNC has earned a reputation as one of the best universities in the world. UNC-Chapel Hill is the first public university in the United States. It opened its doors to students in 1795. The University offers 77 bachelors, 111 masters, 65 doctorate and seven professional degree programs through 14 schools and the College of Arts and Sciences. Carolina offers degrees in various academic areas including business, dentistry, education, law, medicine, nursing, public health and social work.

More than 29,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students learn from a faculty of 3,800. Many of those faculty members hold or have held major posts in virtually every national scholarly or professional organization and have earned election to the most prestigious academic academies and organizations.

Carolina’s academic community benefits from a library with 7.2 million volumes and 92,483 serial titles that perennially ranks among the best research libraries in North America as judged by the Association of Research Libraries. UNC Chapel Hill is listed as the 5th best public university in US News and World Report’s “2018 Best Colleges Guide” and 11th best in Forbes “2017 Top America’s Colleges” rankings.

International students interested in exchange at UNC must have the equivalent grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and have a high level of English language proficiency. In considering UNC-CH as an option, please be aware that only graduate student candidates are permitted to enroll in courses numbered above the 700 level. Undergraduate candidates are restricted to classes numbered 100-699, and unless otherwise stated in the agreement, all admitted exchange students are required to enroll in courses within UNC-CH’s College of Arts and Sciences. Exchange students are not permitted to take classes at UNC-CH’s professional schools, which include the Business School, the School of Information and Library Sciences, the School of Journalism, the School of Law, the School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Social Work, the School of Government, the School of Education and the School of Public Health.
