Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is a public, historically black college located in in the beautiful harbor town of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. ECSU enrolls nearly 2,500 students in 37 baccalaureate programs and three master’s degree programs, a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, as well as a member-institution of the University of North Carolina system. The University has academic programs that appeal to various interests and fields of study, including the honors program, military science, study abroad, Viking Fellows for education majors, and our signature programs – aviation and pharmacy. ECSU has two new 172 SP model Cessna planes (purchased 2010 and 2011)–Air Viking I and Air Viking II.

Elizabeth City State University has been and is an important academic and cultural center for northeast North Carolina and the region. A constituent institution of the University of North Carolina system, ECSU is committed to fulfilling the mission of serving as a valuable resource for building the state’s intellectual capital through teaching, research and community outreach. Students are exposed to exciting research opportunities that extend their learning beyond textbooks and classrooms. Learning is enhanced by innovative instructional and informational technology. Students may also take advantage of specialized academic support programs. Several academic and research initiatives such as the Drug Information Center afford students with opportunities for community service.

The University provides an academically rigorous, stimulating learning environment and a faculty committed to the education of each student. U.S. News and World Report’s “2014 Best Colleges” ranked ECSU #21 among Top Public Schools (Regional Colleges/South). The publication also ranked ECSU #18, among historically black colleges and universities. For the second consecutive year, Washington Monthly ranked ECSU #1 among baccalaureate colleges in the publication’s annual college guide.
