Hello! My name is Gaby Roth and I am a current student in the class WRIT 1001. For this entry on this class website, we will be talking about style guides and font usage in a document, and how it affects the meaning and overall usage of a document. As students or professionals, we tend to do a lot of writing that has meaning and a variety of document layouts. But when considering the viewing of the document, what needs to be thought of is the style guide. We’ve been using style guides all of our academic career, whether we knew it or not. They were given to us in the format of “rubrics” that define the typeface, the size of font, and the need for other specific formatting instructions if there needed to be.
Style guides tend to be very important to follow, as can be seen on our website here. Everything we've done up until this point and all entries included are using a specific style guide. This is to ensure for consistency, readability, and visual appeal. When a document is missing one of these three, it doesn't seem like a big deal. But in this perfect triangle of document design, having all three will ensure your document is as professional and accessible as possible. This does not, however, cover the details or content of what is said within the document itself. Does this sound like an interesting topic to you? If so, go forward and read further on this entry HERE.
Here is an example (shown below) of a style guide that we used for class!
