My topic is about the importance of technical writing and communication in the Engineering field. Engineers and technical communicators share a common skillset: they are problem-solvers. Though they are both characterized as problem solvers, there is still a need for technical writing and communication in engineering. We are part of a growing digital era that makes information more accessible to people. Therefore, there should be an emphasis on improving how information is presented for better understanding and communication for its designated audiences. There are constant advancements in the digital world as well as technology influence in our day to day lives, which forces information/data to be clearer and understanding in order to communicate successfully. Not only does this aid the audience, but it also helps the engineer learn better ways to present their findings. I will reference journal articles that focus on explaining the communication importance and differences engineers have.

" You can have the best idea... but if you can't figure out how to communicate it to others effectively, then it is just as nice as putting up on your refrigerator at home..."
This YouTube video explains very well the improtance of effective Technical Communication in Engineering. The video starts off by an alumni of the University of Michigan sharing how technical communication was part of her first engineering classes and despite her not seeing its importance, she admits that now professionally, she sees how that technical communications class helped her communicate her schoolwork and now with students effectively.
