The COVID-19 Pandemic has been the single largest event to change the travel industry entirely since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. At the beginning of 2020, the world continued to see growing levels of international travel and a level of globalization which would be unheard of a century ago. However, this highly intricate network was what allowed the virus to spread quickly out of Wuhan and throughout the world in a matter of months.
Unfamiliar with how the virus functioned, the majority of governments in the developed world instituted mandatory lockdowns, shutting down businesses, schools, places of worship, among other services. While these aspects of life disappeared, the airline industry remained open, seen as the essential gate to the world that was necessary for those who still required its usage. With new procedures put into place, airports and airplanes ironically became one of the least likely places to be infected.
This article explores some of the changes related to Technical Communication that the industry has undergone during the lockdown and adjustment to living during a pandemic.
