This class website includes student research web entries on topics in technical writing and communication. Technical writing and communication is the process of communicating and simplifying complex technical topics for a wide range of audiences.
See our student entries page for more information on topics in technical writing and communication.
WRIT 1001 provides an overview of technical writing and communication as an academic discipline, a profession, and a technique for explaining complex and technical information. The class includes readings and discussion, student-led presentations, peer workshops on TWC content you create, guest speakers, and opportunities to interact with professionals in the field. In addition to reading about the field of technical writing and communication, students write and revise texts, including a research-based website that explores an issue related to technical writing and communication.
Each student in WRIT 1001 has created a website entry on a selected topic in technical communication. Each entry includes a total of three pages: (1) an introduction to the selected topic (2) a summary of research on that topic and (3) references consulted. This project has allowed us to more deeply explore topics in technical communication, as well as to practice the collaborative authorship of a collective website. We have reviewed content strategy, web writing techniques, and style guides as part of this class project.
