Job Summary
Section Leaders will support 1-2 sections of the CLA First Year Experience (CLA 1001 & 1002) classes. Each Section Leader will assist in the delivery of the course, working as a peer mentor to students and providing weekly feedback on reflective writing. Each Section Leader will report to the Program Director for the Office of Student Experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Attend biweekly meetings led by OSE staff. Section Leaders must be available Wednesdays 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Attend all OSE training including completing online summer training, Prep Week (Monday-Friday prior to the start of classes fall semester), Common Time (see previous bullet), and a spring semester leadership conference.
Participate as needed in CLA initiatives such as Welcome Week.
Register for and complete a CLA career course. Sections of CLA 3002: Career Kickstarter will be reserved for Section Leaders to aid in facilitating career-related curriculum in FYE courses as well as provide personal career preparation.
Lead group and one-on-one meetings with students to support their sense of belonging and personal development.
Hold weekly office hours.
Promote and support the UThrive initiative, the in-person co-curricular component to the FYE.
Regularly respond to student questions or concerns via email.
Track completion and provide meaningful feedback for students’ weekly work in the courses.
Work with OSE Team Leaders to implement course requirements and monitor students’ progress in the course.
Other duties as appropriate or requested by the program.

Weekly Emails (by Monday night at 11:55pm)
Every other week include a link to a Mental Health Check-In GoogleForm that you created (see instructions and a template here). ONLY YOU will see this GoogleForm.
Grade submissions (by the Sunday after the assignment is due at 11:55pm)
Office Hours (at least one hour a week)
Common Time (every other Wednesday night from 5-7pm)
Host section meetings
Weekly for in-person sections
4-5 times a semester for hybrid sections
1:1's (once a semester with each student)
Meet with your TL (solo) once a semester
Confidentiality
Abide by FERPA: Do not share information about the students in your class
Mandated Reporting: Report to professional staff if you hear of sexual assault, abuse, or stalking
Communication
Communicate your class progress with your TL regularly
Let your TL know when a student has fallen behind or is at risk of failing
Let your TL know when a reflection seems off for a particular student (for example, if they seem more depressed or more apathetic than usual)
Communicate if YOU are struggling so we can support you, too
Professionalism
Have fun, but remember to behave professionally
You represent OSE and CLA at all times, not just when working with your section or during Common Time
Continuous Learning
Ask questions - Your fellow SLs, TLs, and ProStaff are all here to support you in this role
Be on time to Common Time (if you are running late or need to leave early, let your TL know ASAP. If you consistently need to miss part of CT, please speak with ProStaff)
Bring an open mind - Everything we discuss will have a nugget that you can take away to impact your practice in OSE as well as your future outside of OSE. Look for those nuggets (and they may be different for everyone!)
Flexibility
Being a mentor is a learning process. Be flexible with your students and yourself as you are learning how to be an effective mentor
Section Leaders will be paid $15.25/hour We anticipate you will work around 50-60 hours per semester and will earn about $850.
Team Leaders will be paid $16.50/hour We anticipate you will work around 70 hours per semester and will earn around $1,000.
Your payment will decrease or your payment will be late if:
You do not submit your timecard on time (every Monday by 8am)
You miss more than one CT during the semester
You are allowed to miss one CT without any reduction to your pay (a "miss" includes full absence, arriving more than 15 minutes late, or leaving more than 15 minutes early)
Each absence after the first will result in a reduction to your next payment (you will be unable to enter the 2 hours for CT on your timecard if it is your second miss)
Student staff who miss 4 CTs will not be renewed for the following semester
You miss the Partnerships Across Student Leadership conference in the spring
Your pay may increase if:
You attend additional training sessions outside of your normal meeting times. Watch for info about these throughout the semester.
You have taken on additional tasks or responsibilities at various points through the semester (e.g. swiping UCards at a curriculum event) resulting in more hours of work over the course of the semester.
Log onto MyU and click "My Time" on te lefthand sidebar.
Click "Submit Timesheet."
Select the SL position title under "Job Title."
Type the hours you started and finished working under "In" and "Out." Make sure to include AM or PM.
Under "Time Reporting Code," click the dropdown menu and select "01 Regular Pay."
Click "Submit" in the bottom-left corner.
Make sure the hours you submit are representative of the hours you worked. Then, click "OK."
Click "OK" after your submission is confirmed.
