Grading on Canvas can be difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it will become easier and easer! Here is a How To Grade in Canvas guide that was made to guide you through it. Please feel free to reach out to any ProStaff member or your Team Leader for extra help and guidance.
SpeedGrader can be an effective way to grade. With the Canvas SpeedGrader option, you are able to read your students' reflections, write feedback and grade at the same time. The Canvas site has provided directions on how to utilize SpeedGrader if you need a reminder.
Happy grading!
The canvas gradebook can be confusing since it is color coded. Here are some guidelines and reminders when it comes to the Canvas Gradebook.
Once the assignment due date has passed, the assignment will turn color itself without you (or ProStaff!) needing to do anything. Here is a little more about what the colors mean:
Blue indicates that the assignment was late. Canvas will always let you know exactly how many days the student has submitted something late.
Red indicates that the assignment is missing, I would recommend leaving a comment, letting the student know they can still resubmit for half points. If you have worked an extension out with the student, you can go ahead and select "None" once you've graded their work.
Excused - Please do NOT use this function. We've noticed that when an extension was worked out, section leaders would indicate that the student has an extension by selecting the "Excused" button, however, they would forget to go back and change Excused to a grade, which causes problems when calculating their midterm/final grade.
Green - Occasionally, if a student resubmits an assignment, you'll see that their box will turn green. For this, you'll need to use SpeedGrader, underneath the grading box, Canvas will have a link that says "use same grade for resubmission" If they've earned the same grade as before, select that link. If not, enter in a new grade.
