The First Year Experience is a year-long program and consists of two courses that are mostly online: CLA 1001 and CLA 1002. CLA 1001 focuses on transitional skills, such as time management and finding a sense of belonging, whereas CLA 1002 focuses on the development of CLA Core Career Competences. CLA 1001 and CLA 1002 are both 1-credit, graded S/N only, and are graduation requirements (students must pass in order to graduate from CLA). By connecting with faculty, staff, and campus resources–like the University Libraries, CLA Career Services, and their Academic Advising team–students will be prepared for the rest of their University experience and beyond.
The Transfer Semester Experience is a semester-long program and consists of CLA 3001, which is mostly online. CLA 3001 is available to students during the first or second semester in CLA and focuses on transitional skills, such as finding a sense of belonging at a new institution, CLA and University specific resources and information, and development of CLA Core Career Competences. CLA 3001 is 1-credit, graded S/N only. The TSE is an optional course, incoming transfer students do not need to take it to graduate (though it is highly recommended). By connecting with faculty, staff, and campus resources–like the University Libraries, CLA Career Services, and their Academic Advising team–students will be prepared for the rest of their University experience and beyond.
