Students will purchase textbooks during CTE 4100 (CTTE 1) and reuse them for the entire two-year program. They can purchase them from an outside vendor or from the UCM Bookstore. Remind students that they need to keep them and not sell the books back at the end of the semester to avoid having to re-purchase them.

For more information on textbooks, please see the Textbooks page.

CTTE Semester Start Checklist

Course Location

Make contact with the institution’s administrator regarding:

      • Dates for each face-to-face class session

      • Times that you desire to meet

      • Room number

      • Multimedia availability (will need a projector at a minimum)

      • Internet access (for both instructor and students), including whether or not you need passwords

      • if you have students who need accommodations, be sure the room has these ready (you'll know which students need these and what they are because you'll receive notification from the Office of Accessibility Services)

Prior to CTTE 1 (the first course)

    • Using the New Teacher Institute list that we will provide:

      • Make contact with respective administrators to ask that they encourage new instructors to enroll in the CTTE courses.

        • Email administrators as initial contact.

        • Call administrators if they don't respond to your email.

      • Make contact with the new instructors/potential students for CTTE to encourage them to enroll in the courses.

        • Email new instructors/potential students as initial contact.

        • Call new instructors/potential students if you don't get a response from email.

    • When establishing face-to-face class meeting dates:

        • Look at BIG things like spring breaks and State SkillsUSA. We might not be able to accommodate all districts’ spring breaks, for example, but we need to at least try to coordinate with our students’ schedules. Most of this information can be found online once you know the students’ districts.

      • Send your meeting dates to the office professional as soon as you have them.

Administrator Notifications

Email each student’s administrator a copy of the “Pertinent Information for Administrators who have Instructors in University of Central Missouri’s Career & Technical Teacher Education (CTTE) Classes 1-7” before the first of each class that includes the Contact Information and Lesson Title/Topics for the various classes. Be sure to attach the Administrator and Mentor (or respective contact) assignments that include dialogues.

Be sure to make contact with the School/Administrator where you will have class. Know what technology and media is available in your meeting space and find out the contact information for someone you can contact if something goes wrong (doors locked, projector dies, etc.). It is a good idea to try to make contact early in the week before your scheduled meeting date as a reminder to them that you will be there.
