Unplugged: Scratch Charades

Students will be introduced to the computer science concept of repeat loops by participating in Scratch Charades, an unplugged hands-on activity that fosters students' understanding of how Scratch's block-based language works by acting out and building scripts.

Objectives

Computer Science Objectives

Students will be able to understand that loops help control how many times something will repeat in a script.
Students will use loops to create recurring events in their scripts.

Language Objectives

Students will be able to reflect and discuss challenges about utilizing loops.
Students can explain similarities between a loop on scratch and their performance of a sprite.
Students can develop a definition for loops and their prime purpose.

Vocabulary

Scratch Terms

Sprite: a media object that performs actions on the stage in a Scratch project.
Repeat: an action/event that occurs more than once/forever.
Loop: a block in Scratch that controls how many times an action will occur.
Code Blocks: pieces of code or commands in a puzzle-piece form
Script: code put together in a specific order or sequence.
