Los Primeros Pasos

As the time comes to write the research proposal, I cannot help but get nervous. I don’t have a lot of experience in writing research papers. The closest thing I can say I have done is write labs for both chemistry and biology classes. With research the topics are endless and can be written in multiple ways. In labs, everything is already set out for you, all you have to do is go through the lab and summarize. This week’s article from The Craft of Research opened my eyes to the restrictions and commitments there are when it comes to writing a research paper. The biggest challenge of them all is the one I am currently working on, finding my topic. But don’t worry, trust the process. One of the ideas explored in the text is the idea of writing all your ideas and beginning to narrow down to topics you truly are passionate about. A restriction worth mentioning is the effect of your research. “If a writer asks no specific question worth asking, he can offer no specific answer worth supporting” (41). The topic I need to choose needs to be specific and actually worth writing. Readers can see when a writer is passionate and committed to their work. There have been multiple times where I read a book and fell asleep. I do not want to be that writer. My goal for my research proposal that I am working on is to grasp the attention of the people and open conversations about my topic. I want the readers to not have to imply what I am trying to say but actually be left intrigued. I appreciate this article because it gives multiple tips on multiple parts of research. All the way from the word count to research questions, significance, wording etc. Stay tuned.
