The intention of the GIM sim sessions are to try to access CanMEDS attributes that are generally not encountered in other components of the Residency training program. The emphasis is not on the Medical Expert role, but rather the communicator and collaborator roles. The context of the scenarios is to provide acute medical situations that must be dealt with, but at the same time, keeping the resident somewhat off balance by introducing detractors, minimizing available resources and requiring some problem solving. There is intent to induce some element of teamwork by providing an associate (another resident) who can be called on if needed.
