Every Thursday from 13:00-16:30 (lunch provided 12:30-13:00). AHD is mandatory for all residents except when on an out-of-town rotation, elective, vacation block, post-call, or with an excused absence. You are excused from all clinical duties during this time, and should call locating to “sign-out” your pager to an off-service resident or staff. Please remind your attending staff beforehand as a courtesy. We have no return-of-service after AHD; so unless you’re on call, you’re free to leave afterwards.
AHD attendance is MANDATORY for all residents who are on rotation in the Edmonton zone - this includes research and the Sturgeon rotation.
Note: Residents are excused from AHD when on UAH or RAH Night Float, rural rotations (i.e. Red Deer), Night Pool, Post-Call, approved Vacation, Flex Days and Conference Leave, evening shifts, and local elective blocks in Edmonton. Residents MUST enter in their attendance or absence into One45, AHD attendance. This will be available on the following business day.
*Any absence from AHD that is not listed above is considered an unexcused absence. An email must be sent to Dr. Carpenter and ahdintmd@ualberta.ca to inquire if an unexcused absence may be taken. (An example of an unexcused absence would be a doctors appointment).
100% attendance is expected (with the exception of excused absences). If you are having trouble getting to half-day on time due to clinical commitments, please let one of the Lead residents know so this can be addressed.
With the consent of the presenter, AHD presentations will be recorded in a database for the benefit of residents unable to attend in person or to review after. This will also serve as a comprehensive resource for residents throughout their CIM training. Videos may be viewed through the YuJa Enterprise Video Platform .
After AHD, there is no required return to service (unless on call, of course). Our Wellness group organizes periodic social events post-AHD; this is a perfect time to hang out and relax.
