Starting in July 2016, the R1s will have a full day of sessions from July-December. The purpose of the Boot Camp is to accommodate a more seamless transition to residency ("Transition to Discipline" and "Foundations to Discipline" per the new Royal College CBME guideline). Sessions will be didactic, large group sessions, small groups session or case-based lectures. This allows residents to stay engaged and cover common presentations and topics encountered during internal medicine training.
Attendance is MANDATORY. Rotations are aware of this and therefore R1s should not be on call on a Wednesday (home call is ok) during these 6 months.
Unless otherwise stated, they will be every Thursday at 08:30 -16:30 in the Dianne and Irving Kipness Health Research Institute (formerly known as ECHA) Rooms change look at AHD newsletter.
These will be the theme-based sessions aimed at covering core internal medicine topics to help prepare residents for rotations and for the Royal College. Sessions are largely didactic lectures, but will also include physical exam sessions, simulation sessions, QI lectures, resident presentations, and sessions focusing on non-medical expert CanMEDS roles and resident wellness. These will be attended year-round by the R2s. R1s will join in January after completion of Boot Camp and the R3s will attend until December, after which they will participate in Transition to Practice Academic Half Day.
Resident Presentations will be 20 minutes each. These will be on a topic of the resident's choosing and does not need to fall within the overall theme of that day. These presentations can be used to fulfill the yearly presentation requirement.
Unless otherwise stated, they will be every Thursday at 13:00-16:30 in the Dianne and Irving Kipness Health Research Institute (formerly known as ECHA). Rooms change look at AHD newsletter. (Lunch will be provided at 12:00-13:00). Subscribe to our AHD calendar to stay updated with event times and locations
In the second half of the year, R3s will have a special series of AHD sessions. These will include lectures on topics pertinent to transitioning to a staff physician--examples include principles of billing, setting up a practice, etc. This will also include "Royal College" sessions where pre-selected R3s will have the opportunity to work through staff-directed cases similar to the Royal College.
