COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides students with a survey of aspects to aboriginal law and Crown-Indigenous relations. The course will introduce students to the following areas: UNDRIP, Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, the Crown-Indigenous Relationship, and the impact of residential schools. The class will take a primarily black letter approach to the law with a focus on case law and textual analysis. Students will develop an understanding of the historical placement of these issues and how they evolved from contact to present. Evaluation will be conducted by way of closed book examination(s).
