Method of presentation: Classes will include short lectures, discussions and demonstrations as to best dispute resolution practices



METHOD OF EVALUATION

Students will graded on their performance in a negotiation and mediation role play assignment. In addition, a short “in-class” test to be written near the end of the term will serve to evaluate the student’s knowledge of the fundamentals of the three principal methods of dispute resolution used in Alberta-negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.



COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to introduce the student to dispute resolution (“DR”) mechanisms as they exist within the framework of civil actions in Alberta. The student will become familiar with the kinds of DR procedures available, and when best to use a particular kind. Practical “role play” type exercises will give the student “hands on” experience in negotiation and DR.
