Year 11 will develop a student's knowledge and understanding of the Timber industry and its related technologies, highlighting the importance of design, management and production through practical experiences.
Students will be introduced to tools, machines and processes used in the Timber Industry such as: Timber pen making; Box making; Joinery techniques; Furniture fixtures and finishes.
Students also undertake an Industry Study of a business within the Timber industry.
In the HSC course students apply their knowledge and skills developed in Year 11 to develop a Major Project in the area of Timber and Furnishings.
Examples might include: Timber products e.g Boxes, Bowls, Ornaments and Timber furnishings e.g Coffee tables, Cabinets and Cupboards, Desks, Pool/Games tables.
A Design Management and Communication Folio documents the research, planning and creation of the Major Project.
The Project in the HSC year is a major proportion of the student’s assessment - 60%. It is externally marked.
The HSC exam is one and a half hours and counts towards the ATAR.
