Visual Arts is a subject where content can be engaged broadly and deeply. Students develop autonomy in their practical and theoretical understanding, knowledge and skills. These skills are vital to lifelong learning.
While Visual Arts in Years 9 or 10 is not a prerequisite we highly recommend that you speak with the art teachers if you would like to select Visual Arts in Years 11 and 12
Students create artworks in at least two expressive forms and use the Visual Arts Process Diary to plan, record and evaluate art making (50% of the course content)
A broad investigation of ideas in art criticism and art history exploring the world and its art. (50% of the course content)
Students develop a Body of Work and continue to use of a Visual Arts Process Diary - (50% of the course content)
A minimum of five Case Studies (4–10 hours each) with deeper and more complex investigations of ideas in art criticism and art history - (50% of the course content)
Visual Arts is counted towards an ATAR. Trinity cohorts consistently achieve very high marks and are regularly chosen to exhibit in the NSW showcase ARTEXPRESS
The annual Visual Arts Exhibition displays student artworks in the St Mary’s site Hall each August, showcasing the complexity and variety of artwork that each year group has developed. Most of all it reflects the students’ enjoyment and love of learning Visual Arts.
Students learn how to express their individuality visually by using many skills and techniques and a wide range of materials and media.
Visual Arts involves students in the practices of art making, art criticism and art history. Students develop their own artworks, culminating in a ‘Body of Work‘ in the HSC course that reflects students‘ knowledge and understanding of a chosen Art making and Conceptual practice.
Students critically and historically investigate artworks, critics, historians and artists from Australia as well as those from other cultures, traditions and times.
The Year 11 course is broad, while the HSC course provides for deeper, increasingly more independent investigations.
Enjoy a course that is 50% practical and 50% theory which challenges and encourages personal growth by developing skills, knowledge and positive selfesteem.
