Trinity Defenders – Girls Basketball
Change. A word that scares people of any age for fear of the unknown. This year 24 young ladies stepped into a gym and faced that fear. Three small schools (Trinity Centralia, Trinity Hoffmann, and Trinity Hoyleton) all were struggling to have enough girls to form a basketball team. The administration recognized this and reached out to one another for support. This was the beginning of something great, the Trinity Lady Defenders.
The season started off rocky and taking a couple losses early in the season. A loss is only negative if you don’t learn anything from it. The Lady Defenders were sponges and quick to learn. They took 2nd in the TSJ Tournament and 5thin the Edwardsville Tournament, defeating very talented and tough teams along the way. The Lady Defenders played as a united team, despite being from three different schools. No one could tell that only three months ago they were all strangers. At the end of the season they were not just teammates but friends. The Lady Defenders finished their season 14 and 8. They await the call if they will be selected to continue their season in the Lutheran State Tournament.
Have a Blessed Day,
Liz Norrenberns, Girls Basketball Coach
Trinity Lady Defenders Take 2nd at TSJ/ILS Tournament! Way to go Ladies!
Trinity Defenders take 2nd place in the TSJ Tournament. The Defenders breezed by their first match up against Zion Litchfield winning 52 to 18. Knolhoff lead the scoring with 11 points followed by McKinney with 9 and Stanart with 8. The Defenders next opponent, St. John Chester, put up a challenging fight. At half Chester lead 20 to 18. The Defenders took the lead by 2 points after the 3rd quarter. McKinney drained three 3 pointers for the Defenders to pull away at the end for a final score of 42 to 27. McKinney lead the Defenders with 19 points followed by Knolhoff with 9points. The Defenders were halted by the TSJ Titans strong defense in the championship game winning 40 to 16.
