Love at First Slide

As we play a fast game of recess tag

I sprinted fast up the hill for the slide

And notice your cool playground swag

It was then I knew I must be your bride

So I write you a heartfelt note

To entice you to say the words, I do

I used my prettiest pen and wrote

Check yes. Check no. Do you like me too?

As I anticipate your answer

My heart begins to skip a few beats

I feel my vision begin to blur

The folded-up paper is slid by my feet

My stomach is in knots. I unfold the note

Trembling, I read the word …“maybe,” pit in my throat
