Beach School
At Pebsham Primary Academy we have introduced Seashore Explorers, our Beach School. We aim to promote outdoor learning and develop a motivational, educational and fun way of supporting our pupils as local citizens. Outdoor learning is a proven way of improving learning; it decreases stresses and anxieties, helps elevate mood and supports pupils emotionally.
Children often have too much exposure to digital screens via televisions, computers, and mobile phones. This could lead to obesity and possible psychological and academic issues. Outdoor learning allows our pupils to put their focus back on nature and on themselves. Pupils who get to experience an outdoor learning environment tend to be more attentive and, therefore, have a better recollection of information being shared with them.
Most children learn better by using their senses. Outdoor environments, such as the beach, provide the perfect place to do this. Instead of viewing different types of plants or wildlife on a computer or TV screen, they can see, smell, hear and touch them. These hands-on experiences cultivate a love of nature and get them interested in our local, natural environment.
Seashore Explorers
Seashore Explorers encourages outdoor learning and promotes team work. Children in every class will be able to earn 6 class badges per year, which they will add to their school Seashore Explorer sash. Badges will be earned for a variety of activities from reading on the beach, playing games such as ’it’ or water bucket relay races, wave jumping, skimming stones and so on. Extra challenge badges will be available at special times of the year.
Seashore Explorers Sashes
Every child receives a sash and collects badges each year to add to it. Children can add at least six badges every year at Pebsham.
