Pupil Wellbeing

5 steps to wellbeing

Pupil Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at OVPA. Before anything else, we ensure every child knows how to look after their own wellbeing. These ‘5 Steps to Wellbeing’ can help us feel more positive and able to get the most out of life.  You will find these visual steps in every classroom and daily activities implemented into class to promote them. Daily runs, wake and shakes, time to talk with adults and the endless opportunities to learn are all examples of wellbeing activities we do at OVPA!

Wellbeing Ambassdors

We have a wonderful team of Wellbeing Ambassadors from Years 4-6. These children are responsible for giving every pupil a voice and helping to support our pupils and the school community. These pupils have applied for their role and been through training to ensure they are the right people for the job!

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors will run some assemblies, help plan Mental Health week, complete random acts of kindness and be responsible for sharing ideas to promote Pupil Wellbeing every term.

Worry Monsters/Boxes

We pride ourselves on creating strong, positive relationships in our school where children feel safe and listened to. Every class has a worry box, which gives those feeling sad or worried a way to communicate their needs without saying it verbally. These are checked by the class teacher, who can then have a 1:1 conversation with the child and ensure they feel heard and supported.

Feel Good Fridays

On Friday afternoons, we have dedicated time for Feel Good Friday! Classes are encouraged to do activities which support the wellbeing of our pupils and give them time to enjoy themselves with friends. This can range from art or music lessons to games afternoons.

Wellbeing Warriors

Wellbeing Warriors is run by our sports coach. It encourages children to be the best they can be and learn to express their feelings and emotions through sporting activities. They learn social skills and how to support and celebrate others.

Celebrating our Pupils

We love to give all our pupils as many opportunities to be proud of who they are and celebrate their individuality. We celebrate every Mental Health week, have dress to express days and get staff and pupils involved as much as possible. We have also hosted our very own OVPA’s got Talent where children, staff and parents all came together to celebrate our incredible pupils.
