Physical Education

At OVPA we offer a high quality, inclusive Physical Education that seeks to promote a love and passion of Physical Education and active lifestyles. Our broad and balanced curriculum is well mapped to develop children holistically personally, socially, cognitively and creatively as well as developing fundamental movement skills and knowledge that can contribute to lifelong participation.

We value school sport highly here at OVPA and we encourage children to be physically active as much as possible throughout the school day with lots of brain breaks and active learning built into our curriculum.

Starting in EYFS and into KS1 children develop fundamental movement skills (Agility, Balance, Coordination) through the immersive REAL PE scheme.

KS2 builds on these fundamentals and allows their application into a range of activities including games, dance, gymnastics, Outdoor adventurous activities, striking and fielding, swimming and athletics.  Children are encouraged to become resilient, independent, cooperative,  problem solvers and creative thinkers – skills that can all be transferred into wider life.

At OVPA children take part in one lesson a week ran by Active Primary- the children love to see an outside face show them some new sports and skills. One lesson per week is also led by their class teacher which follows our REAL PE scheme.

School Sport

At OVPA we provide as many opportunities as possible for children to engage with extra-curricular or competitive sport. We offer a variety of sports clubs: football, netball, cross country running, dance, multi-sports, athletics & gymnastics.

School Games GOLD Mark Award

We are delighted to announce that we, have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

We look forward to applying once again in 2024!
