Cambridge Nationals Sport Studies

Aim of the course:
This is a vocationally-related qualification that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. The new Cambridge Nationals in Sport Studies reflect this and provide students with a broad knowledge and understanding of different aspects of sports studies, from looking at contemporary issues in sport and the relationship between sport and the media to developing the practical skills essential for progression into the sports industry.
Course content:
Students are required to follow 4 units from the list below:
Compulsory units:
1. Contemporary issues in sport
2. Developing sport skills
Optional units:
1. Sports Leadership
2. Sport and the Media
3. Working in the sports industry
4. Developing knowledge and skills in outdoor activities
Assessment:
All units will be assessed by the course teacher and externally moderated by the examination board. There is 1 external assessment, in the form of a 1 hour written exam. All other units are coursework based and are externally assessed.
Successful completion of the course will result in the following grade being awarded:
· Level 2 Distinction* (equivalent to 9 at GCSE)
· Level 2 Distinction (7/8 at GCSE)
· Level 2 Merit (6 at GCSE)
· Level 2 Pass (4/5 at GCSE)
· Level 1 Distinction (3 at GCSE)
· Level 1 Merit (2 at GCSE)
· Level 1 Pass (1 at GCSE)
