Task 2
CHOOSING A THEME FOR YOUR DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE YEAR
CHOOSING A THEME FOR YOUR DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE YEAR
It is important that you select a theme that will sustain your year’s work and is meaningful to you.
You need to choose a theme that is conceptual as well as having a clear pictorial focus.
It must be a theme that inspires you and makes you think of lots of possibilities for development.
It needs to be practical for you to undertake (Don’t choose something that is difficult to access, Paris for instance) and you must be able to find lots of artist’s work and supporting material to support your choice.
Create a Pinterest page titled L3 Photography. You will be expected to use this all year to collect imagery and ideas. Start by looking at LOTS of photographs, keep an open mind and save examples of images you like. (At this stage you want to keep it really broad and your selections and artists don’t need to relate)
Make sure you collect ideas from different sources – books and films as well as the internet. You MUST NOT limit yourself to photographers, you can look at painters, sculptors, architects, printmakers, designers, films, games etc….
You also need to look at examples of NCEA portfolios to get ideas and to see what kinds of themes are successful and how they have developed ideas. Save these on your Pinterest page too.
