Meet Waldo!

As of May 25th 2022 the Jo Kelly fish tank became the temporaary home of 5 hatchling red eared sliders. They were each a little bigger than a US quarter. They were rescued from a cement fountain with no food growing in it.

We will watch them grow to about the size of our palm and then let them go back into the wild where they belong.  The turtles are fed over the weekends with an automatic feeder, but over breaks they stay in the tank of a staff member. It's really fun watching our students watch the happenings in our turtle tank!

We have all enjoyed watching all the action in the turtle tank!

Oh the little guys name is Tiny Tim!

 The Fish Story

by eileen baze

Once upon a time, in the Spring of Covid Shutdown, I was riding my bike. I noticed that standing in the middle of the biketrail were two baby red eared slider turtles.

They were only an inch wide and needed a rescue!

They lived in my aquarium until they were about the size of my palm, at which time they needed to learn how to eat fish. I was preparing them to be released back into nature.

I went to the pet store and bought some ‘feeder fish’.

I put them in with the turtles, and those fish became 'turtle dinner'

Except for the two fish now in our tank!

They escaped the turtles!

They survived!

Now fast forward to  the Snowpacalypse February of 2021.

The aquarium was without electricity and the fish were without air for days!

The water became so cold it was painful to even put my hand in it.

Yet the two fish survived!

They outgrew our tank and now live in a huge pond up in Keller.

They are both goldfish.

The two fish in it are big enough and swim slow enough, that many of our students can track them!

This is a fluid project as our tank will morph into a ‘glow tank’ for even better visibility with bubble ornaments for an auditory experience as well!
