Lights, camera, learn! 

Do you love watching movies? Have you ever wondered how your favourite TV show was made? Do you want to learn how to make your own videos with professional cameras, audio equipment, lights, and software?   

Martingrove’s Communications Technology program can teach you all of this – and more. Students enrolled in these exciting courses get to write, film, direct, and edit a range of media products in a supportive and collaborative environment. The knowledge and skills they develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as advertising, animation, photography, broadcast journalism, film, and television. 


TGJ 2O1: Communication Technology - Video Production 

In this introductory course, students will explore the discipline of film and video making as it pertains to pre and post production techniques. Students will also develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to communications technology.



TGV 3M1: Video Production (no prerequisite) 

This course allows students to build on the skills and concepts that were introduced to them in the Grade 10 communication technology program. In this course, students will primarily focus on the medium of video making in all of its commercial and artistic forms. Through the strands of theory, application, and communication, students will become familiar with the visual language associated with the media of video, the various technological tools of video and its many uses within historical and contemporary society.  

TGV 4M1: Video Production (prerequisite - TGV3M) 

This course allows students to build on the skills and concepts that were introduced to them in the Grade 11 Film and Video course. In this course, students will further explore the discipline of film and video making with larger and more intensive studio projects. Through the strands of theory, application, and communication, students will become familiar with the interdisciplinary uses of video, including web-based video streaming for the purpose of journalism, self-promotion, art and entertainment. 

Skill Competition Winners

Martingrove is a leading competitor in Technological Skills Competitions in TV & Video Production. In 2023, Martingrove's team of 2 - James Deogrades and Aidan Schreder - won a Silver Medal at the Skills Canada Competition in Winnipeg, MB after winning Gold at Skills Ontario.
