Program Description:
From picture books to historical novels, Mary Casanova’s love of woods, water, and wilderness permeates her work. Personable and engaging, she entertains & educates as she shares her stories and writing process, including:
*exploring story ideas
*overcoming writer’s block
*doing the research
*drawing on the five senses
*mining personal experience
*creating strong beginnings . . .
Mary Casanova tailors her visits to her audiences. She engages younger audiences with puppets and a canoe for an interactive performance of her beloved picture book One-Dog Canoe; with older audiences, she explores moral dilemmas found in her novels, such as a MN wildcat strike (1989) or Prohibition on the northern border (1920s). Depending on her audience, her presentations might include:
*picture books (One-Dog Canoe, Utterly Otterly Day, Wake Up, Island) and/or . . .
*early mysteries set in a northern village where dogs roam free (Dog Watch) and/or . . .
*kids’ adventure novels (Wolf Shadows, Riot, When Eagles Fall) and/or . . .
*gritty historical dramas set in 1920s northern MN (Frozen, Ice-Out, Waterfall).
Mary likes to book multiple events in the same region. She toured Arrowhead Library System in 2023, Great River Regional Library System in 2022, Northwest Regional Library System in 2020, and Pioneerland Library System in 2018.
Target Audience: Depends on the presentation
Cost for 2026: $1000 all-inclusive; 2 program minimum.
