First, check out this video about the big bang. This is the theory scientists have developed about how the universe came to be.
A lot of times when we say the word theory in conversation, that means a guess. However, the word theory means something a little bit different in science. In science, a theory means an explanation of something based on the data. It is not a guess; it's an explanation based on the data, or evidence, available at the time. Theories can change when more or different data is found, but it is not "just a guess".
