Soo Hyoung Joo is an EdD candidate in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University, specializing in second language assessment. Her dissertation, recently completed and successfully defended, investigates how learners use language to engage in scientific practices within a scenario-based language assessment supported by AI avatars. She has been instructing ESL and EFL learners since 2008, accumulating a wealth of experience in the field. She has also worked as an item writer, editor, and fairness reviewer for leading language assessment and educational organizations. As a researcher in the scenario-based language assessment research lab at Teachers College, her research interests include learning-oriented assessment, scenario-based assessment, and the integration of technology in assessment methodologies.
