Google Hangouts is a video conferencing tool that will enable you to connect with your students via video. This tool can be used to connect with your students for a study session, to clarify information, connect with other classrooms, educators and professionals in the field. It is a robust tool that is easy to set up and use. See tips below and be sure to review how-to videos on Technology Update Page.
Check back throughout the week for more information to support virtual conferencing.
1-Teachers you should be the last person to leave a Google Hangout/Meet session to prevent the kids from going back in or staying on when you leave.
2- Do not advertise the link publicly to prevent hackers "zoom bombers" from joining your call. Never post your link on Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc
3- Do not record a session with students. The video is a window into their homes so we need to protect their privacy.
4- Do not take a screenshot of the session without permission of all on the screen.
5- If you record a session with adults, please tell them they are recording them at the start of the meeting.
6-Be cognizant of what is visible to students during a video call. Make sure nothing is visible on the screen that you do not want students to see in your home. Remind students to think about this, too!
7-Talk to your students about how to be “professional” on a video chat. Set behavioral expectations just as you would in your classroom:
8-Only meeting creators and calendar owners can mute or remove other participants in a meeting
9-Meeting participants will not be able to re-join nicknamed meetings once the final participant has left
10-We are learning together: if something needs to be added to this list of considerations and guidelines, please email me.
This document provides you and your students with Social Norms when on a call which is on the online learning site. Please review it with your students if you host Google Meets.
