I apologize for this late edition of the Technology Update. I am trying to take care of myself and enjoy as much of the weekend as possible. This weekend was glorious! And Monday definitely arrived too soon!

Here is a recap of last week's technology team progress:

-This past week we upgraded our bandwidth to 10gigs. This is super exciting!

From my initial assessment I can share that we have a large number of technology tickets associated with software that came in last week. I will be dedicating the next two days to resolving these issues. Tickets are the best way to get issues resolved as my team gets hundreds of emails per day and some get lost in email abyss. And unfortunately some emails get read hours or a day later when a ticket may have been resolved sooner by a technician.

Please know that with all the various new software and hardware the expectation is that we go slow and support each other. All the specific software training that we have offered will continue throughout the year. And as we roll out new hardware in classrooms we will offer ongoing virtual sessions to support you. We are in this together! We can do virtually anything!

Formative Training
A couple of weeks ago many teachers participated in Formative Training. Formative is a district paid application that allows teachers to make a pdf digitally accessible and allows for the creation of a digital task that has many question types. It also allows for teachers to view student completion data in real time. If you have not checked it out yet please visit your tauntonschools.net Google account and search for the invite. If you cannot find it reach out to me so that I can resend it to you. You will use your tauntonschools.net Google account to access Formative so remember to sign in with Google. Please find the district taped trainings below. I hope to have additional trainings by our Formative Rep very soon. I got great feedback from the last two trainings and would like to ensure everyone who wants to use this tool feels comfortable using it. Please know that Formative can replace some of your Google Slide assignments, comprehension assignments, etc that may be difficult for students to access. The greatest Formative feature is that you can add audio directions and ask students to respond to questions verbally as well.

Hopefully by now you have received your Polycom studio. There are some individuals who may not have received one yet. Please reach out to your building principal or myself if you have any questions. For those that need assistance with setting up your camera and want a some beginner support with using the camera I will hold a virtual session this Wednesday at 9:30 am. This session will review unboxing your device, setting up your device, and connecting your device to use with Google Meet.

Charging Carts

The TPS technology team will be rolling chromebook carts out to classrooms and hallways to serve as charging stations available to students who need to charge their devices once they return to school. We are asking that students charge their device the night before however we realize that some students will come to school and need to charge their device. Students should come to school with their powercord. We have repurposed the carts as a charging station by reversing the cart and removing the back panel. Additionally we have purchased additional extension cords to have available for charging.

You may find earbuds and headphones helpful when students come to school in person. Please ask students to bring these to school if they have their own headphones and earbuds. If students do not have these available to them we will provide it. These have been ordered and we are waiting for them to arrive.

Elementary students may need access to mice in order to support the use of technology in the classroom. We have ordered additional mice for pre-k to early elementary students. These should be arriving soon.

Within the next two-three weeks classrooms for students in grades 6-12 will be getting larger screens to connect to their laptops. This will allow teachers to have a larger view of their Google Meets. Feel free to move this stand to an area of your room that best fits your instruction.

In the next several days prek-5th grade classrooms will be getting Interactive Promethean Boards to connect to your laptop. This will allow teachers to have a larger view of their Google Meets. Training will be forthcoming. However for now use this device as a 2nd monitor. I will demonstrate in a video next week.
