All TPS teachers should be asking students to first log into Classlink and then proceed to the other applications located on the Classlink Launchpad/Dashboard. What this means is even if you have students going to Google Classroom they should first log into Classlink and then use the Google Classroom application to go to Classroom. Special notifications are going to be located at the top of every student's Classlink. We need all TPS students to access those notifications prior to beginning any sessions of Google Meet and other applications.
This is super important for all K-12 students! Please drive this message home to all of your students this week as you are laying the foundation and routine for blended remote learning.
Why is this important?
I will be sharing the Classlink Analytics tool that can assist teachers and principals.Classlink will be used to track which students are accessing remote learning and which students are not. Please share the following link with your students and families so that they understand that this is the expectation.
Classlink offers teachers a powerful analytics tool so that we can track which students are accessing remote learning. Additionally teachers can access information that can assist students who struggle to login. Please watch the videos below to review how you can access your student's analytics.
Now here me out...this message is for those teachers who are new to Google Classroom and are spending hours supporting families and students with logging on. We are getting your emails about your struggles. Learning Google Classroom takes time and expecting families with limited technology skills to access Classroom may be too much for them at this time. Consider the alternative below. This is a great solution for elementary students who have packets as their core instruction.
During this time of Remote learning it is important to reflect on how information is presented to students. Google Classroom is a great platform to assist us with providing assignments. However it can seem overwhelming to a students and families, especially those who are new to using the platform. Below are some helpful hints.
1. Post daily assignments. A week long list of assignments can be overwhelming for students. Instead make an assignment in advance in draft form and assign them on the day you actually want students to work on it. Remember less is more for students! They should be getting something from you each day of the school week. Even if it is just a daily message checking in.
2. Organize your Google Classroom and remove assignments from your "Stream." Select- hide notifications in Stream in your settings. Direct students to find assignments in Classwork only.
3. In classwork tab organize assignments by week in your topics section. Consider including a "Today" topic to emphasize what students should be working on.
4.Number your assignments. This helps students know the order in which they were posted and the order in which you expect them to be completed.
Another means of communication with parents/guardians is through sending a Google Parent Summary. The video below shares how you can turn on this feature for your families. Please note that you will most likely (unless you have this stored elsewhere) have to access your Schoolbrains to locate these parent email addresses in order to enter them into Google.
What will parents/guardians see?
They will see announcements from the teacher and a summary of their child's assignments and missing assignments for that day/week.
Will parents receive multiple parent summaries from various teachers making it overwhelming?
Google will actually put these Google summaries into one email making it easier for parents to see all of their child's assignments in one email.

Google Meet just got a little easier and more secure. Watch the video below and follow the direction sheet provided to add Google Meet to your Classroom.
If you have young students and families that are not familiar with Google Classroom consider sharing the link on the Classlink Dashboard. You can easily do this by creating your own application and sharing it with your students. Watch the video in the Classlink Analytics section above to learn more.
One tool that you may find useful to help you modify a PDF worksheet is called Goformative. The technology department is getting an influx of emails asking for support in this area. Below is a brief tutorial for using Goformative. This tool also integrates with Google Classroom so that students are not overwhelmed with an additional application. If you choose to create a Goformative account please use your tauntonschools.net Google account and you will be linked to our free pilot giving you access to more features. If this is a tool that you would like additional professional development please see the youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTYCAqH67MNhKtOezThRS4w/videos
