The decision of what to bring to TASIS England is a very personal matter, and much depends on your child's interests, e.g., sports, music, etc. It is worth remembering that storage in the boarding houses for individual items might be much less than there is at home, and that the large majority of boarders share rooms, so space is limited. We recommend not overpacking.
We are fortunate to live close by to some major shopping centres (as well as London), so there will be plenty of opportunity for boarders to buy anything they need once they are here, so they do not need to bring masses with them. Winter clothes, for example, are not needed in August!
Boarders will need uniform and personal clothes, items for school work, and some personal items that are important to them. We provide bedding, bed linen, and towels, so boarders do not have to bring these items unless they wish to.
A worthwhile guideline is to suggest that boarders bring a maximum of two suitcases. The following list is suggested as a general guideline to assist in planning for what additional items to bring to school:
Change of socks and underwear for 7 days
1 pair of regulation school shoes
2 sets of nightwear
2 outfits of “smart casual”
1 pair of sports training shoes
Casual clothing for evenings and weekends
1 dressing gown
1 pair of slippers or house shoes
Overcoat, preferably rainproof
School bag for books
Sports/kit bag
Items for PE and sports – see a specific list
Laptop
Mobile phone
Pencil case and stationery – although this can be purchased locally
Padlock
It is important that each personal item is named with a permanent marker or labels.
Every boarder is given a lockable space in their bedroom where they can store any valuable items away in a safe and secure place. We also recommend that large amounts of money or other valuables not be kept in the boarding houses but be handed into the Boarding office for safekeeping.
