Students and mobile phones (mobile data access):
TASIS England recognises that personal mobile devices can provide unrestricted access to the internet through mobile data and may bypass the School’s filtering and monitoring systems. This can expose students to safeguarding risks including harmful or inappropriate content, bullying and harassment, the sharing of nudes and semi-nudes, pornography, exploitation and other forms of online harm. Students must therefore comply with the School’s mobile-phone arrangements throughout the school day.
Grades 5–10: Students in Grades 5–10 may not use or access mobile phones or equivalent smart devices during the school day, including during lessons, movement between lessons, breaks, lunch, study periods and co-curricular activities.
Devices must be switched off and stored securely in accordance with the arrangements specified by the relevant Section. A device must not be accessed simply because it is being carried in a school bag or stored in a locker. Exceptions may be authorised for an individual student where required for medical reasons, disability or SEND, safeguarding, travel arrangements or another specifically approved purpose.
Grades 11–12: Students in Grades 11–12 may retain possession of their mobile phones during the school day but must keep them switched off and securely stored. They may not use or access their phones during the school day, including during lessons, TASIS England Online Safety Policy TASIS England is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and expects all faculty, staff and volunteers to share this commitment. It is our aim that all students fulfil their potential. transitions, breaks, lunch, study halls, free periods or co-curricular activities. Any exception must be specifically authorised by the Head of Upper School for a defined purpose, time and, where applicable, location. Misuse or unauthorised access will be dealt with in accordance with the Behaviour Management, Discipline and Sanctions Policy.
Boarding students: During the teaching day, boarders follow the same arrangements as day students in their grade. Outside the teaching day, mobile phones may be used during agreed periods of free time in accordance with Boarding routines. Phones must not interfere with sleep, supervision, study, activities, relationships or the privacy and welfare of others.
Mobile phones are not normally used after lights out.
Phones will be collected from younger boarders, ordinarily up to Grade 10, and this arrangement may be extended where a student persistently uses a device at inappropriate times.
Because TASIS England is an international community, Boarding staff may agree proportionate arrangements for private family contact where international time zones make normal contact times impracticable.
Any use of mobile technology to intimidate, bully, harass, threaten or attempt to radicalise others or breach copyright laws will be counted as an infringement of network use and breach of discipline and will be dealt with in accordance with the school's Behaviour Management Discipline and Sanctions Policy.
This may result in disconnection from the school network, confiscation of the mobile technology and/or legal or civil disciplinary action.
Uploading images and sound is only permissible if the subject involved gives permission and if in doing so, school and statutory guidelines are not breached. Students are reminded that making, sending, requesting, receiving or sharing nude or semi-nude images or videos involving a child under 18 is prohibited by the School and may constitute a criminal offence. All incidents involving the sharing of nudes or semi-nudes, whether consensual or non-consensual, will receive a safeguarding response. Students who are concerned about images they have received, sent, requested or shared should speak to a member of staff immediately. The School will respond in accordance with KCSIE 2026 and the UKCIS Sharing nudes and semi-nudes guidance.
The School may confiscate mobile electronic devices in accordance with its Behaviour Management, Discipline and Sanctions Policy and the DfE’s Searching, Screening and Confiscation guidance. Where an electronic device has been lawfully confiscated following a search, authorised staff may examine data or files on the device where there is good reason to do so and may retain, delete or pass material to the police where permitted by the statutory guidance.
Safeguarding concerns will be referred to the DSL and managed in accordance with the Safeguarding Children and Child Protection Policy.
