First Notice Sent: March 26, 2024 via email
Dear Parents of Incoming Kindergarten Students,
The Walt Whitman Kindergarten Orientation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 9:45 AM to approximately 11 AM. Only parents who have fully registered will be able to attend. If you are unsure of your registration status, please call the main office at 516-364-5823.
The orientation will have a two-pronged approach:
The first objective is to provide incoming Kindergarten students with an experience that mirrors the learning opportunities they will have in the fall.
The second goal is to provide parents of incoming Kindergarten students with insight into the professional infrastructure of the school building.
Upon arrival, our staff will escort your child to one of our three Kindergarten classrooms. While there, your child will engage in activities aligned with our Kindergarten curriculum.
As a parent/guardian, you will gather in the Gym to hear a round-table presentation from our staff regarding the school experience at Walt Whitman Elementary.
The program will start promptly at 9:45 AM. It's advisable to arrive by 9:40 AM to allow ample time for parking and for our staff to escort your child to their designated classroom.
Children will be grouped by color. Upon entering the building you child will receive a colored name-tag that will be worn throughout their duration of the orientation. Note that classroom placement during orientation does not reflect fall placement.
Consider exploring our school building with your child by accessing our website: Walt Whitman Wolverines Site
As we approach the final months of the school year, attention turns toward planning for the next year. Some parents may contact me seeking consideration for their child’s placement with a specific teacher. I request that you respect our decisions and refrain from making specific requests. We take the responsibility of placing your child seriously and ask for your trust in our process. Please refer to the Placement Letter sent annually to the parent community.
With home and school working together, we can ensure your child’s school experience at Walt Whitman is exceptional!
Sincerely,
Chad Snyder
Principal
