Welcome Back Wolverines!

Dear Beloved Walt Whitman Elementary School Families & Students:

Welcome back to a new school year filled with boundless opportunities, growth, and learning! As the sun rises on another chapter of your academic journey, we are excited to reconnect with familiar faces and extend a warm embrace to those who are joining our wonderful school community for the first time.

Our school is not just a place of education; it's a vibrant tapestry of dreams, ideas, and aspirations. Each of you is an integral thread that weaves this tapestry together, creating a supportive environment where curiosity knows no bounds and achievements are celebrated with genuine joy.

This year promises to be a canvas of exploration and growth, where you will be encouraged to step out of your comfort zones and embrace challenges as stepping stones to success. Our dedicated teachers and staff are here to guide, inspire, and nurture your potential, ensuring that every step you take is one towards excellence.

Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Each lesson learned, every friendship forged, and every obstacle overcome will shape you into the remarkable individuals you are destined to become. We invite you to bring your unique perspectives, talents, and passions to the forefront, enriching our school community with the tapestry of your experiences.

As Walt Whitman once said, "Keep your face always toward the sunshine—and shadows will fall behind you." Let this year be a celebration of your radiance, resilience, and determination. Embrace every moment with open hearts and open minds, and together, we will create a legacy of brilliance that shines for years to come.

Welcome back to Walt Whitman Elementary School! Let's make this year a masterpiece of shared growth, learning, and unforgettable memories.

With warm regards,

Mr. Snyder

Principal, Walt Whitman Elementary School

Important Information

As mentioned in the correspondence sent to our elementary school communities, our elementary school schedules will be pivoting from a 5 day schedule to a 6 day schedule. Please see more detailed information regarding this change for Walt Whitman at the following link: 6 Day Schedule

I look forward to seeing you all at our first PTA Meeting on Thursday, September 7th at 7:30 PM. For new families to Walt Whitman, we invite you to attend the PTA sponsored Newcomer Social where you can get to know your neighbors, the PTA, and mingle with other new families (more details will be discussed at the PTA meeting).

Please plan on attending our evening Open House; scheduled for Thursday, September 21. This is a wonderful time to meet your child's teacher along with all of our Special Area Staff and Related-Service Providers. A schedule for Open House will be forthcoming the first week of school.

Most importantly, if you have not already done so, we use Remind to send out text messages regarding school-related memos and PTA-related events. Please sign up for both text groups. All schedules from the school including Open House will be disseminated through the Remind App:

Class placement will be sent out by the Syosset Central School District on Wednesday, August 30th at 12:00PMThis website will be updated in conjunction with the release of the class placements to reflect the teachers and the corresponding grade levels. Please make sure that you can access your Infinite Campus accounts before Wednesday. If you are having trouble, please follow the directions on the district site: Infinite Campus Parent & Student Portal https://www.syossetschools.org/domain/150 and look at the step-by-step directions below this letter.

I want to take this opportunity to remind our community that I will NOT, under any circumstance, change any class placements.  Our entire team of classroom teachers and related service providers dedicated the entire months of May and June placing students in classrooms that will meet academic and social/emotional goals. There are so many variables involved with why children are placed in certain classes that the 122 placement requests I received this Spring and Summer became unrealistic to consider as a priority.

Please refer to the placement letter found on the Wolverine Community website you received in the Spring. Our collective goal should be teaching our kids “resilience” and that begins with you, the parent and guardian of our amazing children. Together, we can make this a great year for each child while teaching them this valuable life lesson.

If you would like to drop off your child's school supplies early, you are welcome to drop them off with our security team on Wednesday, August 30 between the hours of 9 AM and 2PM.

This site is not meant to replace the district's site; rather, provide more detailed information about Walt Whitman, our staff, and our school community. All the information you will need with regard to our school will be located on this website. Please make sure you look through every tab on the website to learn about our staff, arrival/dismissal process, and the curriculum  resources available to our students.

I look forward to another great year ahead. I thank you for your partnership in making Walt Whitman a school of excellence!

Sincerely,

Mr. Snyder
