ILP Review

ILP Review

Because the mentor-candidate relationship is a foundational component of an Induction program, ILP completion should be a collaborative process led by strong mentorship. With that said, under the guidance of the mentor, it is ultimately the candidate’s responsibility to complete the ILP Inquiry Cycle entries and submit the ILP for review.

Since this program is designed to meet the California state requirements for proficiency, ILP Inquiry Cycle completion will not earn letter or numerical grades.  Proficient completion of each ILP Inquiry Cycle along with other sections of the ILP (e.g., Context) will first be assessed by the candidate’s mentor; should the mentor feel that the candidate has proficiently met all ILP Inquiry Cycle requirements at the end of each cycle, the mentor will verify completion via the mentor signature (space located under each ILP Inquiry Cycle). If the mentor assesses that the ILP is not proficiently complete despite ongoing mentoring and support, the mentor will notify the Induction Team of the candidate’s status as soon as possible, and the mentor will not sign the ILP Inquiry Cycle. NOTE: Should a mentor become concerned about a candidate’s lack of progress at any point in the cycle (e.g., repeated lack of follow through, repeated cancellation of meetings, nonresponsive), the mentor should contact the Induction Team as soon as possible for guidance and support.

Once the ILP Inquiry Cycle is reviewed by the mentor (with or without signature), the candidate must submit the ILP for review by the Induction Team Staff by the specified deadline. Progress toward mastery will be noted by an Induction Team member on each candidate’s Progress Tracking Transcript, and successful completion will be noted with a “YES” for “Complete.” Should a candidate require revisions, the completion status will be noted with a “NO” for “Incomplete,” accompanied by specific feedback and a resubmission due date. Should a candidate show a tremendous lack of progress, a Special Assistance Plan may be implemented; in this case, both the candidate and mentor will be notified by the Program Manager.

ILP Review Grievance Policy

In order to seek resolution for “Incomplete” completion status and appeal, the following procedures will be followed:

Participants should document their efforts to complete Steps 1-3 by keeping records of contact with the TOSA, Program Manager, or Assistant Superintendent of Leadership Development and Innovation or equivalent (emails sent and received, notes about phone conversations, etc.).
