Vision and Mission Statement

The vision of the SUHSD Teacher Induction Program is to build professional capacity within our district, increasing teacher efficacy, support, and leadership.

The mission of the SUHSD Teacher Induction Program is to provide a two-year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning that begins the teacher’s first year of teaching. SUHSD hopes to provide each candidate with the opportunity to clear their credential while participating in this enriching mentorship program.

The Why, What, and How of Induction

Why should we participate in the SUHSD Teacher Induction Program?

In Mentoring Matters, Laura Lipton and Bruce Wellman state, "[New teachers] who participate in high-quality induction programs that include a comprehensive mentoring component have increasingly shown that they increase beginning teacher retention, improve student achievement, and reduce the waste of financial and human resources associated with teacher turnover.” Additionally, through our Teacher Induction Program, teachers receive a high level of support, build positive relationships with both experienced teacher leaders and their new teacher colleagues, and have the opportunity to complete the requirements to earn their Professional Clear Teaching Credential free of cost.

What is the SUHSD Teacher Induction Program?

Teacher Induction is the process by which a teacher becomes eligible for recommendation to CTC for a Professional Clear Teaching Credential. SUHSD is a CTC-approved recommender for both General Education and Education Specialist Teachers. To be eligible for recommendation to CTC for a clear credential, a candidate must have met all SUHSD Induction requirements. SUHSD Teacher Induction is a two-year free-of-cost program for candidates who are eligible and progress.

How do we participate in the SUHSD Teacher Induction Program?

Each Induction Candidate is provided with a Google Drive Folder that includes their annual ILP (Individual Learning Plan). This folder is shared with each paired Induction Mentor as well as the Induction Team. Each Induction Candidate and Mentor will meet weekly, work on the Individual Learning Plan, do classroom observations, attend Professional Development meetings, and submit documentation of the Individual Learning Plan and mentorship program. Document submission is easy! Simply click on  "Submissions" in the top toolbar or on the link below. Click on the page that aligns with your role (Mentor or Candidate) and locate the topic related to the document you wish to submit. You'll find Google Form links available for submission of every required document. Complete the form, and that's it!
