If you are a high school senior in the Pierce County League and would like to participate here is my survey link and consent forms. For your information only, the consent forms are also linked.
There is a problem with the rising case of COVID-19 leading to the cancellation or postponement of sports seasons among many other cancellations including school in general. Despite many efforts and several attempts to begin school and sports, many areas have closed schools to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure. This seems to have negatively impacted the mental health and stress of students in this area, both athletes and nonathletes.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many efforts are being made in order to reopen businesses which is extremely important, however school and it's activities are seemingly not the first priority. Restaurants and other businesses have been able to open while school hasn't even been able to open for hybrid learning and for most athletes, no fall/winter training. The hope of this study is to find compelling evidence as to how the pandemic has affected these students and athletes and who needs the most help.
The hypothesised result of this study is that senior athletes' will show a more negative stress level than non athletes.

Athlete: An individual who participates in 1 or more school-sponsored sports.
Case Study
The method that I will be using is case study by means of survey. Participants will be asked a series of questions electronically that I will use to gather data. Responses will remain anonymous to protect personal privacy and participants can opt to receive the results of the study by email if desired. I will be comparing the effects high school senior athletes and senior non athletes. I will be gathering both quantitative and qualitative data.
All participants have the ability to opt out of any questions they want, leaving me with limited results. My participants can also choose to never fill out the survey. There is also a chance that a very limited number of individuals choose to participate in my research. Data was left skewed meaning I could not perform a significance test.

Based on the data I received, I did not find convincing evidence that athletes were more stressed than non athletes. I did find, however, that athletes were more stressed when their sports seasons were cancelled.
More studies need to be conducted regarding sports that are not sponsored by the school. There also should be more research about how various sports season statuses affect other mental health aspects of the athletes. Additionally, there needs to be more research done about athletes versus nonathletes since I was unable to receive a sufficient sample size.
