Sgraffito

I was attempting to envision how the form of the tile would seem in these pieces. This is the reason why my original design is a little bigger. I used white pencil and black drawing paper to create my sketch.  Then, as soon as I got to the actual clay tile, I changed to a sharper knife with a wooden handle.

To create this piece, I initially sketched up a pattern on paper to mark the areas I wanted to remove. I immediately made my way to the clay and started designing. It was eventually finished and placed in the kiln.
