Watercolor and marker on watercolor paper
Artist Statement:
In my final piece, I wanted to represent something important to me. I chose to make an ocean because I love swimming and summertime. My goal was to make the piece show this passion.
To create this work, I used watercolor and marker on watercolor paper. I used watercolor paper so that the markers and watercolor wouldn't ruin the paper. I chose watercolor for the ocean because it creates good colors and blends well. I chose to use a marker for the dock to make it a solid color that looks like wood. I also chose these materials because I wasn't too interested in making the piece realistic, I was more focused on my use of color.
Before I started my final piece, I brainstormed different ideas for things that I'm passionate about and want to represent. I then made two sketches of two different ideas and decided to do the second sketch. After that, I drafted the statement I included in the piece. While making the artwork, I was focused on my use of color and the feel of the piece. I wanted to make the art have a happier tone so I used colors that fit with that. Overall, I wanted the piece to have a positive message and have color as the main focus.
