Artist Statement:

For my collage, my main focus was on landscapes. I focused a lot on the ocean because I love swimming and being in the ocean. I also chose some sunsets and skies because I enjoy those as well. I also focused on what colors I wanted to use and how I could make the piece interesting compositionally. When I was painting, I focused on color matching the best I could and staying mostly true to the original collage.

While creating the collage, I used magazine cutouts and glue. I also used special scissors for one of the cutouts to give it a different edge and make it interesting. For my color swatches and my collage painting, I used acrylic on canvas. In my final painting, I also used painter's tape to have cleaner edges. Acrylic paint was helpful for color matching, and I got to practice mixing colors.

For the collage, I went through a process of looking through magazines and finding the pieces I wanted to use. After I found the pieces I wanted, I focused on arranging my composition. When creating my painting, I first started with the pieces in the background. I then moved on to the middle ground and did the foreground after. I used multiple layers when I was painting to create opaque colors. Overall, I created the pieces how I did so that they were interesting visually, and so the colors in my painting matched the original collage.
