A Little Treat

India ink, ballpoint pen, and colored pencils on watercolor paper

9" x 6"

Artist Statement:

For this art piece, I drew three ice cream cones sitting in a display case. I chose to draw this because I wanted to experiment with adding more color and using more materials. I also chose to draw this because I wanted to experiment with style. I hoped to make a drawing that feels fun and happy.

For materials, I used India ink, a ballpoint pen, and colored pencils. I used these on watercolor paper. The india ink was what creater the spot on my paper that I then used to create art with. With the colored pencils, I chose a lot of bright colors and pressed hard on the paper with them. I also used a ballpoint pen to outline my work.

To find my idea for the piece, I first looked at the spot of India ink. I thought that it reminded me of ice cream, so I decided to depict that in my piece. I also did some research for what I wanted to put my ice cream on. I decided to put them in a display case. I chose to use color the way that I did because I wanted the colors to be bright and happy, and convey the feelings of joy that I was aiming for. This is also why I used ballpoint pen to outline. I used it to add to the happiness and cartoony feel of the work.
