Artist Statement:
For this unit, my main focus was on design and using acrylic well. For my final piece, I chose to create a design that showcases all the colors I used clearly. I also wanted to create a rainbow sort of design and have the colors go in order. I also tried to make the acrylic opaque, although that was harder with certain colors.
For my final piece, I used acrylic on canvas. I also used a paint knife for mixing colors to make the process easier. I used canvas because it works best with acrylic paint. I used acrylic to practice mixing colors and using paint to create a design.
I started this unit by painting the value strips. This helped me get used to mixing colors and adding layers. Then, I created my sketches. I didn't end up going with any of them exactly, but it helped me to get inspired. After that, I moved on to the final piece. I started with a sketch. When I moved on to painting, I created the color swatch simultaneously to keep track of the colors I used. I added multiple layers to each paint color to make them opaque. I used a paint knife to mix my colors and tried to add the right amount of each color when making my shades and tints. Overall, my focus was on creating a good design with opaque colors.
