scratchboard

For this project I decided to use a picture of my mom. I took this picture when I was little, so she looks very young. The reason I chose this picture is because not only she looks beautiful, but it's also from a good memory. I also thought that it'd be cool to use for the scratchboard as she has blonde hair so I thought I could really pull out some highlights from her hair. The hardest I think it was the skin because I wasn't so sure on how to make the texture, it was very difficult.

First I chose my picture reference and printed it out. Then I grid it in 3cm squares, and grid my scratchboard with light pencil. I kind of ignored the background and only did the head, and then I just used straight lines coming out of her head because I thought it was cooler than drawing the trees that were behind her in the photograph. For this I only used the scratchboard and a sharp knife. I couldn't pick up the materials from school so I had to order them on amazon and my scratchboard was a little weird because it was glossy and it was very hard to scartch but I figured it out.
