In class we watched a video of a competition called "Doodle for Google". Its a competition for children where they get to design the google logo, according to a particular theme. This year's theme was "I show kidness by..." What we had to do was use the Google logo to come up with a design that showed how we show kindness. Everyone has a different view of what kindness is, so everyone's design is different. Then we submit it and the judges choose one to be on the google home page for 24 hours. This is a very cool competition because once you're done you can see other people's and see how they show kindness and it's very interesting to see what kindness means to each individual.
For me kindness is caring. Taking care of others, opening up to people and be able to build a healthy relationship. I show kindness by hugging, kissing and loving. In Spain, when we say hello to someone you kiss them on the cheeks twice, this is a gesture of caring, respect and somehow support. It's affectionate. After a bad day nothing feels better than a kiss or a hug, even if it is from someone you don't really know. It shows that even if you don't know someone you still respect, support and care for them, care for the well being of everyone. That's one of the things I miss the most, being affectionate with people. Whenever someone hugs me it makes me feel like I'm home. That's why I chose to draw two people kissing and hugging, caring for one another and sharing (music in this case).
I started off by tracing the Google logo in a piece of drawing paper, very lightly. Then erased the bottom part of the O's, so I could draw the figures' body. Oncethe figures where done I drew the headphones, then the rest of the letters. I colored them in with coloring pencils and them overlined it with a black sharpie, which I also used to make dots and lines inside the letters. My design was very simple because kindness is simple, easy. If you want to be kind, you can, it's not hard at all.
