Rube Goldberg machine

Rube Goldberg Machine: A Rube Goldberg Machine is a machine in which a bunch of complicated tasks are put together to complete on much simpler task. Our group (consisting of 4 people) independently assembled our machines with a common theme during online learning due to Covid-19. We also made a presentation of our project which can be accessed by this link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1hK3e9aVaZZtH_X-cNlrX3rJg5Nxi31QqogqJ0IR1Fy8/edit?usp=sharing .

Concepts:

Velocity- The rate of a covered distance in a direction. v= distance/time.

Acceleration- The rate of the change in velocity (speeding up or slowing down). a= velocity/time.

Force- Push or pull on an object which causes it to change in motion. F=(mass)(acceleration).

Work- The amount of energy put into doing something. W=(force)(distance).

Potential Energy- Energy that an object has due to its position at a height. Pe=(mass)(acceleration due to gravity)(height).

Kinetic Energy- Energy due to the motion of an object. Ke=(0.5)(mass)(velocity)².

Mechanical Advantage- How much easier a tool makes a task. MA= force of the load/force of the effort.

Simple Machines- Simple machines which affect the direction of the movement of an object by using the machine.

Construction Log:

Day 1: Measured and planned out board and materials.

Day 2: Cut wood and paper for ramps and corkscrew.

Day 3: Glued materials on the board.

Day 4: Tested machine.

Day 5: Had to redo board to make sure the machine worked.

Day 6: Added final corkscrew.

Day 7: Tested more and fixed parts.

Day 8: Finished and spray painted.

Reflection: Reflecting back on the project, I can clearly see what I did right and did wrong and I know that if I did the project again what I could improve on. What I did wrong was that I was to naive in thinking that my project would work right off of the bat. Once I tested the machine and saw that it didn't work, I had to change the design which caused it to add two extra days to my construction log. I also had messily planned my first blueprint which made every following one less detailed and more confusing and at one point even I was confused by what I wrote. What I did right was that I adapted quickly to the mistake I made and I quickly made a new design and decided to go with that. I corrected the messy blueprint and now I know that from the start you need to be organized or everything else will be slightly off.
