Build a Band

We started off this project by learning all the things we needed to know about waves and how they correlate with different instruments. Then we were split into groups of three based on our musical preference. After seeing some examples of instruments made in the past years we headed to the maker space to start working on our own. Each member of my group picked a type of instrument that we would play. We decided to all work together on the instruments to hopefully do the best job possible on all of them. We were able to finish the chime and the guitar but not our wind instrument because school got cancelled due to Covid-19.

Build a Band Song

By: Sean, Joey, and Hayden

Joey’s on the phone with his girlfriend

She's upset

She's using radio frequency waves

'Cause she knows they don't cause cancer

joeys in his room thinking about waves

It's a typical Tuesday night

Joeys wondering what a wavelength is

And he'll never know its the distance from crest to crest

But joey wears short skirts

Hayden wears T-shirts

Sean’s the teacher.

And I’m in the classroom

Dreaming about wave frequencies

And find out that they are vibrations

If you can see that waves are very important

Waves are making up the sound

Traveling into your ear

Joey's Walkin' the streets hearing a bunch of sounds (ouu, ouu)

he can't help thinking this is how it ought to be

Laughing about all the waves, thinking to himself

Hey isn't this easy

Understanding waves

I haven't understood them in a while

But now I get them fine.

Frequency- The amount of waves created or received per second.

Wavelength- Distance from crest to crest of one wave.

Wave Speed -How fast a wave travels.

Amplitude -The distance from the midline to the crest of a wave.

Transverse wave- The movement of particles is perpendicular to wave motion.

Longitudinal wave -The movement of particles is in the same direction as the wave motion.

Electromagnetic Spectrum- The range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends.

Reflection: On this assignment I was really happy with both my communication and collaboration skills. My group worked well together in class. Once the stay at home order was in place and meeting up was no longer possible we continued to communicate and collaborate frequently to complete our assignment. My group took ownership for this assignment and still completed it despite the challenges. Looking ahead I would like to continue challenging myself to think more critically. I could have studied my notes more closely before doing the project so that I would not have to refer to them to find information as often. I could try to improve in the area of character by trying to be more of a leader and doing my best to encourage and help my group mates if they are struggling on anything.
